A sarcophagus discovered in an Egyptian burial chamber had a mysterious history until recently. Ancient writing on the stone container revealed that it had been used twice, with the first owner unknown. However, further examination of a fragment of the sarcophagus unveiled a familiar name: Ramesses II. The inscription confirms that the artifact originally belonged to the famous pharaoh and was reused after looting. This discovery sheds light on the entombment of kings and adds to the understanding of Ramesses II’s reign. The fragment is currently stored in Abydos but may be moved to a museum.
