As Chinese scientists were analyzing soil samples brought back from the moon by their lunar probe, they made a significant discovery. They found water, along with minerals, in the soil. While previous missions had identified possible water on the moon’s surface, this was the first time water in its molecular form, H2O, had been found in physical samples. The water was retrieved from a part of the moon where scientists had believed water in that form couldn’t exist. The discovery has implications for lunar habitation and further enhances China’s ambitions in space exploration.
